The app can be installed via the monday.com App Marketplace. Simply search for File Converter.
File Converter has 1 automation to convert your files, and follows the template of 'Convert files in Files to File Format and save converted files in Converted Files'.
The automation has three components:
Automation Name | Required Columns |
Convert files in Files to File Format and save converted files in Converted Files | Files column: File (the original files) Converted files column: File (the converted files) |
Checkpoint: Before continuing, make sure to have 2 files columns created on your board - one for the original files to go into and another for the converted files to be saved to.
Now that your board structure is ready to go, lets generate links using a pre-made automation template.
Click on Automate in the top right corner
Go to Templates/Connect and search for File Converter
This will then direct you to the recipe builder.
Note, before this page you may have to authenticate File Converter to access certain areas of your account. Once this is approved, you'll be redirected back to this page.
On this page all the columns in grey need to be populated with the columns on your board. Both the first and second fields should be the same files column where you'll be uploading assets to. This will allow the automation to trigger whenever an asset is added or removed from the column.
When all the fields are filled out, click Create Automation in the bottom left of your screen.
That's it! You're automation has now been setup and is ready to use in your board.
Custom automations can also be used if the trigger of the templates doesn't work for your use case. For example, if you would prefer to have another trigger, such as manually clicking a button, you can achieve this by using a custom automation.
To do this, navigate to the Automations page like before, and select Manage in the top tab instead of Connect (see the last image above for reference).
From here, click Add new automation. This will then allow you to create a custom trigger (for example on button click). Then search for File Converter in the actions section to see the available File Converter actions.
File publisher supports over 80 file conversion formats. The full list of available formats is available in the automation setup screen which you can select from.
- PDF <-> Word (DOCX)
- PDF <-> Excel (XLSX)
- JPG/PNG <-> PDF
- HTML <-> PDF
- MP4 <-> MOV
- GIF <-> MP4
While majority of popular file conversions are fully supported, on the off-chance a conversion doesn't go through, let us know, as it may be a input output file combination we don't yet support.
Note: For document conversions, if a direct conversion between your input and output file format isn't available, often you can convert it to a PDF file first, and then do a second conversion. For example, in the case of converting PPTX to DOCX, you can convert PPTX to PDF first, and then trigger a subsequent conversion (based on the PPTX column changing as your automation trigger), to convert the PDF to DOCX. We're more than happy to help you set up your conversion to best suit your needs, so please reach out to us if you need any assistance.

I wish I had used these guys in the first place...
"Jack and the team were outstanding with communication, design, advice and build, which ended up looking and feeling 100% native. I will be using these guys again I'm sure."
